As a long-time player of the Paladin class in World of Warcraft, I’ve run across a great number of players who simply have no idea what the different talent specs are capable of.  With that in mind, I’ve created this quick guide to clear up any misconceptions about the roles the different specs are capable of filling.

Retribution:  Retribution Paladins output strong DPS, and are able to tank or off-tank quite well if circumstances require it.  However, tanking requires the Paladin to carry a secondary set of gear focused on defensive stats.  If the Paladin is poorly geared for tanking, they will definitely not succeed.  Always bear in mind that the effectiveness of a tank in WoW is generally in direct correlation with their gear level.  Taking a Retribution Paladin as a DPS class is definitely a good idea though, as they provide quite a bit of utility in addition to their high damage.  If you are considering starting a Paladin, I’d recommend placing your talents in the Retribution tree, getting yourself a Paladin leveling guide, and watching the experience roll in.

Protection:  Protection is the tanking tree of choice.  Protection builds specialize in reflective damage and avoidance.  Unfortunately, their DPS is abysmal unless they are being attacked.  As the majority of the skills in the Protection tree focus on mitigating or reflecting damage rather than dealing it, Protection Paladins find themselves pigeon-holed into a single role.  For leveling, most Protection Paladins tend to take advantage of the non-targeted nature of their damage by rounding up full camps of enemies and letting them beat themselves to death on the Paladin’s shield.  Though it is not an optimal leveling spec, if you are set on tanking as you level, Protection builds can do the trick.

Holy:  The Holy tree is for those who rolled their Paladin to be a healer.  Holy Paladins are widely considered to be the best single-target healer in the game, and in PVP combat they are the toughest healer to take down.  Holy talents work by increasing the effectiveness of the Paladin’s heals, lowering their cast times, and providing additional utility.  Holy is an extremely poor Paladin leveling build, although for healing fanatics, it can be done.  If you intend to level with a Holy spec, plan on grouping a lot, as your damage and mana efficiency will be awful.

Typically, strategy guides for World of Warcraft have a tendency to concentrate entirely on one aspect like Alliance or Horde leveling, grinding for gold, professions, or PvP. The Ultimate Wow Guide includes all of these things in one place. There are a lot of guides available that contain great strategies, but not one of them are nearly as all encompassing as this one. Despite the massive size, this guide is always kept up to date for all game patches and expansions.

Dugi’s Ultimate WoW Guide is collection of 3 main parts. The first part is devoted to the speed leveling guide for both Alliance and Horde, which covers all races and classes. Any strategy guide current with the times uses an in-game mod, and the Ultimate WoW guide comes with a great one. You really won’t want to go back to switching in and out of the game to use a guide.

The guide will configure itself to your toon after you complete a simple installation. Figuring out what you should do is easy since the guide holds your hand through all the steps you should take. A location marker is displayed on the game map when accepting quests, and a directional arrow points you the right way. I found the in-game add-on to perform extremely well.

Another nice feature of Dugi’s in-game guide is that it also includes class specific quests. The best gear will really make leveling more efficient so a comprehensive 1 – 80 gear guide for every class is included. Something not currently seen in any other guides is that Dugi’s Talent Guide resides in-game. Your talents are designated by templates configured to be the best leveling spec for your character class.

Everybody wants more gold. How to get it is the focus of the second part of the guide. You’ll gather all the gold you need during the leveling phase. The gold guide focuses mostly on making gold for high level characters but does include strategies which lower level characters can also use. Mounts are the only reason for making gold for low level characters and that’s just to speed up leveling. The guide includes the best strategies when using auctions, and the best locations to find rare items.  Daily quests are covered as well. You’ll make 500+ gold per hour with this guide. Professions and making gold go hand in hand. The included Professions leveling guide explains which professions you should pursue and how you can level them up fast and cheap.

Lastly, the 3rd section of the guide is all about PvP. PvP is the one thing I enjoy most about this game. The guide has instructions for every single race and class. You will receive a list of mods and macros that will make PvP much easier, and a guide for selecting the correct talents for PvP.

Every facet of playing WoW is covered in the Ultimate WoW Guide. You will not be sorry if you decide to go with this excellent guide. Every single guide in this massive bundle is a winner. The Ultimate WoW Guide gets a thumbs up vote from me.
